About

Hi! The name’s Chris Poblete (pronounced po-bleh-tee, just think spaghetti). I am the founding and lead pastor of King’s Cross Church (KXC), a new church community in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, comprised the most amazing group of people I’ve ever had the privilege of serving with.

For those who care to know, I’m a second generation Filipino-American, born in Long Beach and raised in South Orange County. Although I had a pseudo-religious upbringing, it wasn’t until my early 20s that I became a Christian and eventually started working in church ministry.

I first met my Illinois-native wife at one of our church’s summer camps (cliché, I know). She was young and I was dumb, so it took a few years of our paths crossing again and again before we started dating. Alyssa and I got married in July 2012 (I got the better end of that deal), and since then, we have welcomed three kids into this crazy world—Geneva (5), Haddon (3), and Judson (1).

On writing

I’m a bit rusty as a writer and simply hope to do more of it—so here we are. Welcome. One of the reasons I love writing is how it encourages me to slow down to appreciate life’s simple graces and rehearse the lessons I’m learning along the way. I’m using this place as a way to collect, develop, and work out ideas of personal interest, so that’s what you can expect to find here.

I’ve written articles for The Gospel Coalition, CBMW, and other similar ministries. As far as print work is concerned, in 2012 I wrote a small book called The Two Fears: Tremble Before God Alone (Cruciform Press); my goal was to write a small and accessible work that helps us better grasp the holiness of God and what it looks like to daily live in light of that. I also contributed to the Fall 2020 edition of The Gospel Project (LifeWay), a helpful study resource that shows how the whole Bible points to Jesus.

Miscellany

When I’m not working or enjoying time with the family, you can usually find me either talking theology, listening to 80s new wave, hanging with the neighbors, enjoying a craft cocktail, or smoking a fine cigar. If it’s a really great day, all those at once.

My wife is a fantastic writer, so if you can’t put up with my prose (and even if you can), you should probably check out her writing at Homegoing
